Hawaii: Senate Votes Unanimously To Decriminalize Marijuana | Hemp News

The Hawaii state Senate voted unanimously on Tuesday to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana. The proposal now goes to the House.

  1. The State continues to expand sources for taxation as it seeks additional funding.

    • Why not tax marijuana? Look what happened during prohibition. The government couldn’t win that war, either. So, the problem was largely controlled with the “sin tax”. Despite the skill and daring of Elliot Ness, only taxation controlled the mob and its profits. I believe Al Capone was sent to prison on a tax evasion charge. As for the plant in question, impose a “sin tax” like that for tobacco and alcohol. The government gets revenue, while maintaining a certain standard and quality for the product. I know one can’t legislate morality, but anything beats what we have going now. The “war against drugs” is a best a draw–you’ll never fully control the problem while huge profits exist for those willing to take the risk. Russ
