Ford reintroduces bill to ban all modified crops.
Although a bill to regulate GMO crops on Hawaii Island has been in effect for a month, Hawaii County Councilwoman Brenda Ford is introducing another measure that would ban all modified crops after the council’s Public Safety and Mass Transit Committee disapproved it last September. Ford tells reporter Tom Callis that her bill would "ban all genetically altered crops within 30 days." Current legislation in effect allows some exemptions to remain, including GMO papayas. Ford says she doesn’t expect the measure to pass. But she noted: "I don’t think it’s a waste of time…I see it as an opportunity to look ahead."
